Whelen Edge 9000 offroad
Переглядів 2,4 тис.7 років тому
This is my Whelen Edge 9000, I'm calling it an off-road version due to the full flood of lights in the front. It was used for my off road pick up but was switched out for an all led lightbar.
May be slightly of topic, I’ve purchased one of these to run my integrity bar from a whelen system. Is there a way in programming to sync external lights eg grill light with the bar via this board? Great videos!
How do you get the top and bottom to flash at a different time. I have no problem changing the patterns but the top and bottom stay the same and flash together. Freedom IV light bars
Does your Freedom lightbar have all the wires from the light heads to the mother board in the middle and controlled by the long control cable with about 18 different wires or do you have the style that is controlled off of cat5 ethernet cable to a wecan setup?
Amazing lightbar and configurations 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Dam that’s hard 💯💯
Thank you! Cheers!
Do you make and sell these?
My apologies for the delays, I do not unfortunately make or sell the lightbars currently. I used to repair and fix a lot of them and still do from time to time.
Do you know if the jumper wire has to have power from my brain or do I just need to connect it to the bars motherboard?
I presume you are referring to the jumper wire bundle that has like the yellow, violet, white, green, etc multi-color wiring correct? If so, that will get power from the brain unit that you are using to activate certain patterns/modes. So for example, if you are activating you take-downs on he white/black wire, your switch box you have power to already will send power from the switch to the lightbar to activate that option for you. The only power you are putting directly from your power source/battery would be the power and ground wiring that is directly from the bar but the bundle wiring will be supplied power from your brain/switch box.
Hello, can you tell me if this Lightbar model is still manufactured and where I can find it to buy? Is there a reliable website that sells this official model for Brazil?
As far as I can tell, Code 3 offer a few new models, their Covert series Matrix, 16 series, 27 series and matrix along with heir Pursuit models currently. As far as official models available for sale in Brazil with regards to distributors, that I unfortunately do not know that market and area. Best thing you can try is visit their website and select your region/country and see if you can search for a dealer/distributor.
Do you have wiring instructions? I have this and cannot figure out the purpose for many of the wires
Depending on how yours is setup but there are a few wiring diagrams that you can find online on google that ill be available for download to show the wiring and what goes to where on your bar or at least a good start. This link here is one version I found for you, hope it helps gives you a good start and baseline for your bar; www.fedsig.com/sites/default/files/resource_library_document/2561340.pdf
does this work with the Valor lightbars? and do I need the Smart Controller with this or any controller? thanks
This will work for the Valor lightbars as I have tested a few of them on the lightbars.
I heard that you can change the colors on these. We recently picked up a red and blue one and want to change the colors. Is that possible?
It depends on how the lightbar is setup. If the boards are setup with different color LEDs on each board, then you should be able to change the colors also depending on programming.
@@rjracing38 hmm ok thank you
Um......this is a Smart Vector, however it has some added features that are >>COOL<<
Yup, that is the correct name, hence the correct title.
Is there a way to add flashing Takedowns and Alley lights?
There is a way yes, I have done it with the Federal Signal software and plugged in my 6 button and 3 button controllers, used the software to reset each button and utilize the flashing takedown option.
@@rjracing38 thanks! Do you know how to make the control box beep when the lights are left on?
@@michaelf8500 , yes, in the Federal Signal program, there should be a section on the left hand side for button control that you can set the beep enabled and reminder for a certain amount of seconds that you would like.
@@rjracing38 unfortunately, the control box is installed in my vehicle. I was hoping there was a way using push button programming.
@@michaelf8500 , if you have a spare cat5 cable, you can unplug the cable from the control box and then plug in the new cat5 from your laptop to the head unit and program it from there. Setting up that kind of programming is only seen with the computer program but the push button programming in the vehicle gives you the option to change what pattern setup or what buttons will turn on or off a pre-programmed options within the head unit itself...
How do folks control the SLR with this module from a whelen controller?
What Whelen controller are you trying to use with your Federal Signal Vision SLR and Serial Interface Module?
@@rjracing38 core/wecanx
Is it possible to use these lightbars without a control box?
Are you referring to lightbars in general, traffic advisors or which model? Most do require some sort of control box to tell certain lightheaded to activate, by what pattern, etc. Some of the old old lightbars could operate by a switch to activate power to a halogen bulb, small motor, etc.
Hey do you know how to set up a full light bar cruise ?
Are you wanting to have the entire lightbar set up in cruise mode or just the standard corners that is normal?
Same question. Entire lightbar set up in cruise mode is what I want
Hi, where I can get those wiring diagrams? Greetings
I have a link in the description that has the direct download to the wiring diagram for the modules and which wire controls which function

Are you able to sell a 6 button controller?
Unfortunately I don't sell them myself but I have worked with a couple vendors to purchase them or have run the risk of locating them online used.
@rjracing38 would it work with a ss2000sm?
@@08_crown_vic, the 6-button controller or your Legend lightbar? Your lightbar has a cat5 wire/connection coming out of the bar along with obviously power and ground so your lightbar will connect to a 3/6/9-button controller like you have or can also connect via a serial interface module or even some of the new smart siren platinum controllers but the older ss2000sm I do not believe will not connect to your Legend light bar as that does not have the right connections. Let alone the 6-button controller you have wont hook-up to the ss2000sm either
Friend, I have a problem. I don't know how to solve it. When the lever is Off, it activates mode 3 and when I put the lever in mode 3, it turns it off. How can I solve that?
Do any of the lights on the display of your controller light up? For example, when you have the toggle level in the off position, does the display light next to the number three illuminated and lighting the lightbar code 3?
Also, do you have your lightbar connected to the 6-button controller directly or do you have it connected in any other way?
@@rjracing38Only the number 3 light turns on. The buttons stay on normally and work correspondingly. This is in mode 6 and each button performs the functions when I turn it to Off.
It turns on mode 3 and when I put it on mode 3 it turns off. Modes 1 and 2 work fine
@@rjracing38Yes sir, you are connected to a legends bar
FS is still a leader
That they are, Federal Signal has been innovating since the early 1900's and their commitment to safety drives them to design better products each and every year.
How do you wire these up have legend police bar sw300*12 switch box an serial interface module 8583469d
Easy way to describe this is if you have the wiring schematic for the serial interface module so you know what wires activate what patterns that you are looking for and then hook those corresponding wires to the switch box for which ever switch or toggle you are looking to activate.
Thanks got working
Where did you get that switch board from?
The switch box I was able to locate one locally but you can find them online as well I'm sure. Most of them will have wiring extended out the back that you can tap into for the different setups of the lightbars. This particular one I was using I also modified slightly and added an extra switch.
Can this be used mounted on the roof for my overlander rig as floodlights? Id thought to do something different.
I would double check how wide the top of your vehicle is to make sure. This particular one was installed to a Chevrolet Tahoe and fit perfectly so more than likely. Federal Signal makes the Valor lightbars in 44" and 51" as this model showcased in the video was the 44" model.
Good music to go with. Ty
Thank you for watching, greatly appreciate it :D
@@rjracing38 You're very welcome
This one has the white leds is not placed in the middle like the other ones
Yes, depending on how the departments would like their bars setup, you can put the takedown setup in the middle/center of the bar or slightly outward to give a little more light. Some of the new bars now give you the option you can make the entire front of the bar be the take down lights.
@@rjracing38 RCMP did use this setup on the wider versions like on a Tahoe, Silverado, Suburban, Econoline, Chevy Express and Ford F Super Duty and rarely on the Police Interceptors like the Explorer and Taurus. Sometimes it setup in the middle
@@GRC6401 Yup, long as there is good lighting for everyone's safety, that's what matters.
@@rjracing38 It currently applies for the Whelen Century for the newer units
@@GRC6401 yup, the Century Elites and legacy, the low pro versions of the Liberty 2 and Freedom 4 bars, are in the center and the Cenators are almost to the edges of the lightbar similar to the Edge 9xwhile the Justice has them towards the outer edges. Whelen for their take down lights and their alley lights still utilize their LR11 led setups.

At the time of filming this, I was using the 6-button controller but since has been upgraded to the Smart Siren Platinum series controller.
2:12 Common flashing pattern for RCMP while the newer fleets are using Whelen Century
Nice, the Century lightbars felt like they were a combination of the Liberty style and Justice light bars just about but I know a majority of their newer style bars are going that way in looks/style.
There’s a longer variant for the pickups and vans
@@GRC6401 yup, they have the 50" models which work well for the wider SUVs an such.
2:01 RCMP uses this when they are parked at some scenes
2:42 2:52 5:24 6:10 It did use those patterns while responding
Can you change the color?
That will require different LED modules and more LEDs, a control board to handle that and programming to tell the board what LED color to activate on what model, etc. I have gone through this on another lightbar I custom made for someone and not super difficult but timely and can be expensive to setup.
So I have a similar bar and so the only thing not working is the front right and left corner. Do you by chance know what’s wrong? Is it also possible to replace the ambers in the back with red and blue flashing modules? Ty!
If it is just the one corner side not functioning or powering on, there could be a few things that could be an issue. There could be a faulty board that went out, faulty wiring/connection, lack of power to the corner board, etc. Another thing that could be that I have seen a few times on repairs is with the corner modules run them as a "master" and a "slave" driver circuit board and if the "master" board or the rear board is not getting power, it will not feed power to the "slave" driver circuit or the front board using the white master/slave control wire.
@@rjracing38 I switched the positive to another positive and both corners work now.
@@molyoxide164 awesome, sounds like maybe the original power lead wasn't supplying power for whatever reason. Glad you got it working!
@@rjracing38 I got this bar for 100$’s so I’m happy with it tho, as their very expensive…
@@molyoxide164 that's awesome! It's always great to find a good deal on some of these bars.
Beautiful, it's the Costarican Police most common lights bar... But we have a problem, officers don't know the real use and meanings of the codes, and sometimes use the code 3 (4:54) for daily work 🤦🏻♂️
Yeah, I have seen a lot of officers do that which baffles me.
What type of power supply is required to run the light bar on a bench?
Easy thing you can do if you would like is just a regular car battery. Or another option you can use is a AC to DC power converter. The one I use for my setups on my displays and test bench is the Tripp Lite PR60 power supply.
Great vid My bar is only doing left to right flash , I tried your trick with the wire in the 3 pin plug by still the same Amy advise
Yours is flashing left and right side synchronized before using a jumping wire in the 3-pin plug? Or was it flashing random patterns on each light head but left and right side?
@@rjracing38 yeah flashing left & right b4 using sync wire
@@daverogers7512 Are all the light heads that are flashing on the left flashing together at the same time with the same patterns? If so, I'm wondering if someone had either gone through and took the time to program each lighthead to have the same pattern setup on the entire bare so it was acting like the sync wire was powered up.
@@rjracing38 Thanks for getting back to me t’s always been set to random one day it just synced 🤷♂️ tried all the tricks no joy
@@daverogers7512 If everything was random before and then all of a sudden started syncing, somehow that circuit is now getting power. Is yours the LC bar?
I'm having the same issue with multiple vars. IS there a way to contact t you to see if you can help me figure it out?
What issues are you having and which bars?
My favorite bar
This was my very first bar I received that didn't have any wiring in it and figured out how the wiring needed to be, wired it all up and got a harness made and got it up and running.
It's beautiful
Thanks :-D
Well done! Thank you. How are the LEDs dimmed? Amperage lowered?
You can dim the lightbar. Depending on how yours may be setup, traditionally the dimming or low power function will typically be on the purple or violet wire. Once you have power to the lightbar and the pattern running, you can activate a switch directly to this wire and should put the lightbar in a low power function making the leds dim down.
Is it possible to have it run on a synchronized pattern, except for the takedowns which should be on their own pattern?
There is a way to have the lights be set in a synchronized pattern which I have made a video showing how to wire it up and set everything up. The video link is; ua-cam.com/video/M5X1kl8aloo/v-deo.html also labeled Whelen Liberty Sync Wiring. Hope this helps out

Hello do you know a place where I can get a power cable harness for this controller, I was able to get the controller but came with out the power cable. Thank you.
So you could probably find one online somewhere for probably too much honestly. Best bet in my opinion is you can look up the electronic manual online on Federal Signal's website and just make one yourself with some small gauge wiring. I believe mine has a two pin connector but only one red wire for power.
@@rjracing38 Yeah, I was looking online for it but no luck and I could not find any on Federal Signal website. So there id two pin connector on the controller one is for power and what is the other one for if you don't mind my asking?
what controller?
On this one, I actually made my own controller but since this video, I came across a good condition Federal Signal SW400SS control box.
In order to hook this up to a 12 bolt / 120 volt converter power supply, does this require a control head ir module so that it operates properly?
Yes, if you have the S2 model with the cat5 connection, that cat5 wire will need to be connected to a control head or any of the Federal Signal devices compatible with the convergence network ports such as the pathfinder sire/light controller, 3/4/6/9 button controllers, smart siren platinum controllers, etc. If you don't have any of those, you will need at the least the serial interface module to plug the lightbar into and then from there, there's a wire harness that you can plug into some aftermarket controllers or even some of the older models such as a 6-button switch box of 4-button switch box with slide switch setup. Then your positive and negative wires coming from the lightbar will connect to your power supply.
@@rjracing38 Wow, that sounds rather complicated. I didn't realize all that stuff went into these lightbars.....All I did was drive these radio cars and take people to jail:).... thanks for this info.....it's a great help.....
@@allenkunihiro9081 haha, it's not too bad but it can be overwhelming at first. You are very welcome. Glad to help.
Hello Are you still around? I have a question re Argent S2 hookup
I am, what question do you have?
The LED bottom version of this lightbar is the best lightbar Code 3 has ever made, change my mind
I don't know, their Pursuit LED bar is pretty awesome but I will say the newer Excalibur bars with LED bottoms, LED uppers with the standard or fast rotators on the upper outers is awesome as well.
@@rjracing38 They do seem to be great lighbars, if only their newer products would be as succesfull as their MX7000s or XLs...
Hello, I have a general question for you if you don’t mind. Do you know if I can use just this Federal Signal Smart SM control head to operate Federal Signal Legend and Federal Signal Arjent S2 lightbars instead of Federal Signals 6-Button Serial Controller? I have some difficulties finding the 6-Button Serial Controller. Unfortunately I can’t attached a photo of the control head that I am talking about. I truly appreciate any help.
If you are referring to the same SmartSirens like the Vision lightbars were using, then technically yes, but you will need to have a serial interface module in between the lightbar and the SmartSiren and then tire all your commands or patterns such as your SignalMaster, Mode1/2/3 tied to the corresponding attachments on the back so you can use the control head properly.
Whelen to Me have the best strobes
I can agree with that, a few other bars I have had, I do like the Whelen models better.
So many useless settings on these old light bars lol. Alley and take downs are nice but other than that..y
Only thing I could think of is different departments have different setups they want to use, same for EMS, work trucks, etc. Each area may want different things so the manufacture can have all the settings available for their bars then depending what a customer wants, can use the settings they desire.
Do you know where I can get one of these 6 button controllers for reasonable price?
Only place I could think of besides finding a local distributor for Federal Signal parts would be on eBay, elightbars.com or something like that.
